Lesson objective generator: a useful next step

Use the lesson objective generator to turn one topic or standard into a clear starting point for instruction. It produces an objective, an essential question, success criteria, and a WICOR goal for you to review.

Start with a precise lesson focus

Choose the subject and grade, then enter one teachable skill. “Compare unit prices using equivalent rates” provides more direction than “ratios.” Select the WICOR emphasis that matches the work students will actually do.

Review the generated language

Check that the objective describes learning you can observe. Each success criterion should help students recognize what a successful response includes. Adjust the wording for your students, the standard, and the time available. Generated language is a planning draft; use your professional judgment before teaching from it.

Make the target useful during class

Pair the objective with a model or worked example. Before independent practice, ask students to explain one criterion in their own words. During feedback, point to the evidence that meets the criterion and identify the next step. End with a short reflection or exit ticket that checks the same skill. Copy or print the language after you have made those adjustments.
