School Year Reflection for Students: What’s Working So Far?

How is the school year going for you? Now that we’ve had time to settle into our routines, I want to hear what you think about your progress and your experience in class.

This school year reflection is a chance to celebrate what you’re doing well, identify something you want to improve, and tell me what could help you learn.

What Are You Doing Well?

Think about a skill, habit, or choice you’re proud of. Maybe you’re participating more, asking questions, staying organized, or working through challenging problems.

Describe one thing you’re doing well and give a specific example.

What Do You Want to Work On?

Everyone has something they can improve. Think about a goal that matters to you, then choose one small action you can take.

What do you need to work on? What will you try next?

What Is Helping You Learn?

Consider the activities and routines we’ve tried so far. You might think about class discussions, group work, independent practice, hands-on activities, or how lessons are explained.

What has helped you learn? Explain how it helps.

What Could We Change?

I want honest feedback about class, too. If something is confusing, frustrating, or isn’t helping you learn, tell me respectfully and give an example. Your ideas can help me decide what to change. If you only write what you think I want to hear, I won’t know what needs attention.

What is one thing I could change to help you learn or participate? Why would that change help?

Your Response

Write a response that answers all four questions. Use complete sentences and specific examples. Before you post, ask yourself: Is my feedback honest, respectful, and useful?

You can be proud of how far you’ve come and still have ideas for making the rest of the school year better. I’m reflecting on those things too.

  2. The thing I’m doing well on is writing notes, and being quiet in class. I want to work on my math and my handwriting. The thing that is helping me learn is when the room is quiet. The thing we could change is to explain how to do something more clearly so I can understand it.

  3. One thing that could help is having a little more quiet time for independent practice before moving into group activities. That extra time lets me process the new lesson completely on my own first.

  4. This school year, I think I’m doing well on my writing skills and on Thinking Math. This year I want to expand how much math I know and get better at working with teams. I also want to expand my vocabulary to improve my writing and notes. It helps me learn when my classmates aren’t being distracting and when what I’m learning about is explained carefully. Something that could change is giving us partners that we feel comfortable with and can talk to during partner discussions without awkwardness.

  5. Since school has started I would say i´m doing okay, definitely not the best considering Science is one the the hardest topics for me. I´m doing well in English, its always been kind of easy for me to write about a specific topic. I think I could improve my Science, its not that I dont listen, I do and honestly I don´t know why its so confusing for me. Something that has been helping me learn is working in productive groups and getting clarification. Also respectfully, something that could help a lot if it was changed is the table groups. It doesnt help trying to work with people who are frustrating and dont help with group projects. I would like to have a productive group that I can get my work done with.

  6. I’m doing good in Math and Science,I participate in Math sometimes. But I would focus more on English becauses during those hours its pure writing and I don’t have that of a good hand writing or just finishing the work in gernal. What helps me in class is when the teachers explain what we are supposed to do because they show examples on the screen or on the board and they show us how to start. What I think students would want participate more is to give students candy.

3)Some thing that has helped me is the grasshopper distention because because it could help me if i wanted to be a surgeon but it is smaller while the human body is way bigger but it could help me.
    4) One thing I think can help people and me is making the class more quiet I say this because people like me need to foucus mor and a whole class room talking is not a good way to focus.

  10. What I think I’m doing well is my work I have most of it and I think I’m doing good. I want to work on my behavior I know it’s not the best but I’m trying to do better. 17. What I’m doing well is that I’m good at keeping things organized, and working through challenging problems to complete them.Something I could work on is my writing skills so I can be better at it. What’s helping me learn is watching someone do something that I don’t understand, because it can help me learn it faster. A thing that you could change is giving us partners that we feel comfortable to talk and work with, because it’s important that we have good relationships with everyone at our table so school can be enjoyable

  23. This year I’m doing well on finishing my work, one thing I will say I want to improve on is my attendence. What has helped me learn this year are my friends my friends would break something down if I don’t get it fully. One thing I think we as a class could change is being quite until the teacher says we could talk because the teacher says if we keep talking we would get more work assigned at we get devestated but still keep talking.

  24. First, I’m doing well in all subjects right now. I have 3 A’s and one B.
Second, one thing I want to work on is my hand writing. It’s not the worst, but I can improve.
Third, something that helps me learn is watching videos of what we’re learning. They help me understand more.
Fourth, one thing that could change is not doing work in the math BOOKS. I like Amplify more because it helps me understand.

  25. I think I am doing pretty well in my class right now, I think what I have work on is getting everything done in class and not waiting till Friday or last minute till it is due. One thing that is helping me learn is the spider science simulation where I can see all the different traits, it helps me because I actually see how it works and not just in writing, What I think y’all could change is maybe when we have online assignments you can explain it to us a bit more before just giving the assignment because then sometimes I don’t know what to do.

  26. One thing I’m doing well is finishing all my homework; however, I’d like to work more on history and science—subjects I enjoy but need to put more effort into. I’d also like to improve my English so no one makes fun of the way I speak it. As for what you could change, I wish you would explain the assignments or how to do things more thoroughly, rather than just saying “do this” or “do that” as if that were actually helpful.
