Classroom Procedures

01.

Start Class

What to do from the moment you enter the room.

Entering ClassEnter calmly and begin right away. +
  1. Go straight to your assigned seat.
  2. Sit quietly and have your materials ready.
  3. Read the TV or board and begin the posted task without waiting for another reminder.
Start class calmly and begin working.
Daily MaterialsCome prepared before class begins. +
  1. Bring your Chromebook, notebook, and required class materials.
  2. Have what you need at your desk before instruction begins.
  3. If you need to borrow something, follow the supplies procedure.
ChromebooksUse them only when class requires them. +
  1. Bring your Chromebook charged and ready to use.
  2. Keep it closed unless you are told to use it.
  3. Use only the websites, apps, or assignments needed for class.
  4. When told to close the screen, close it immediately.
Your Chromebook is a learning tool.

During Class

How we listen, work, collaborate, and get help.

When Someone Is TalkingOne voice at a time. +
  1. If Mr. Alexander or a classmate has the floor, you listen.
  2. Stop side conversations right away.
  3. Listen the first time so directions do not have to be repeated.
One voice at a time.
Getting HelpTry first, then ask. +
  1. Read the directions and look at the example first.
  2. During group work, ask your table group before asking the teacher.
  3. If you still need help, raise your hand and continue working on what you can.
Do not stop working just because you are waiting for help.
Group WorkWork with your assigned table group. +
  1. Work with your assigned table group unless told otherwise.
  2. Use a quiet group voice and keep the conversation about the task.
  3. Stay with your group and participate.
  4. Do not get up to join another group or ask to switch groups.
When You Finish EarlyStay productive and quiet. +
  1. Finish any missing work from the week.
  2. If all your work is complete, do something quiet at your desk.
  3. This is not a time to talk, walk around, or distract other students.
Finished early does not mean class is over.
TransitionsMove quickly and calmly between tasks. +
  1. Stop and listen for the next direction.
  2. Move only when you are told to move.
  3. Get only the materials you need.
  4. Begin the next task as soon as you are ready.
03.

Movement & Materials

When and how to leave your seat, use passes, and handle classroom materials.

Stay in Your SeatAsk before getting up. +
  1. Stay in your seat unless you have permission or are using the restroom or office pass.
  2. Raise your hand before getting supplies, water, sharpening a pencil, or throwing something away.
  3. Do not get up to visit another student.
Using the RestroomCheck the light, take the pass, then wait to leave. +
  1. Look at the light by the passes. If the light is off, no one is out.
  2. You may quietly get up to take the restroom pass and press the correct light.
  3. Tell Mr. Alexander where you are going.
  4. Do not leave until Mr. Alexander acknowledges you.
  5. When you return, hang up the pass and turn off the light.
Getting the pass does not mean you may leave without being acknowledged.
SuppliesAsk before leaving your seat. +
  1. Use your own materials first.
  2. If you need a classroom supply, raise your hand and ask.
  3. Take only what you need and return shared materials to the correct place.
Hands, Feet & PropertyRespect people and belongings. +
  1. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
  2. If something is not yours, do not touch it.
  3. This includes textbooks, notebooks, supplies, Chromebooks, backpacks, and personal belongings.
Respect people and property.
04.

Responsibility

What to do when you miss class, complete work, or leave for the day.

If You Are AbsentIt is your job to make up missed work. +
  1. Check Google Classroom for assignments and directions.
  2. If we worked in our notebook, use the example notebook to copy what you missed.
  3. Complete the missed work and ask questions if something is unclear.
Turning In WorkPut work in the correct place. +
  1. Put paper assignments in the location Mr. Alexander gives you.
  2. Submit digital assignments in Google Classroom when required.
  3. Make sure your name is on paper work before turning it in.
Notebook ProcedureKeep your notebook complete and organized. +
  1. Use the correct page and title when directed.
  2. Keep notes, diagrams, and classwork in order.
  3. If you miss a notebook entry, use the example notebook to catch up.
End of ClassClean up, stay seated, and wait to be dismissed. +
  1. Put away materials and clean your area.
  2. Push in your chair.
  3. Stay seated until Mr. Alexander dismisses you.
  4. Leave calmly when dismissed.
The bell does not dismiss you.
05.

Non-Negotiables

These expectations apply every day.

No Hats or HoodsRemove them before entering class. +
  1. Take off hats and hoods before you enter.
  2. Do not wear them during class.
  3. If you continue wearing them after being reminded, they may be removed according to school or classroom procedures.
Phones & EarbudsKeep them inside your backpack. +
  1. Phones and earbuds stay inside your backpack during the school day.
  2. Do not keep them on your desk, in your pocket, or in your ears.
  3. If you are directed to put a device away, do it immediately.
Science Lab SafetySafety rules are not optional. +
  1. Listen to all directions before touching materials.
  2. Wear required safety equipment correctly.
  3. No horseplay, throwing objects, or unsafe use of lab materials.
  4. Report spills, broken equipment, or injuries immediately.
Unsafe behavior can result in losing lab privileges.

When you are unsure: stop, check the directions, and ask. It is much easier than inventing a brand-new classroom procedure in the middle of class.
