The supported opinion paragraph consists of 3 main parts. Remember the short form ORC:
1. Opinion Sentence
The first sentence of my SOP is my opinion/topic sentence. This is where I state my opinion on the topic.
I think deep-sea diving is a really dangerous activity that people should avoid.
2. Reason Sentences
The next sentences of your SOP is where you give two to three reasons with an explanation/example for each reason to SUPPORT your opinion.
Firstly, most people don’t learn enough about how to safely deep-sea dive before they try it. For example, most people try deep-sea diving for the first time on a family vacation and they only take one lesson before they are taken out to sea for a dive. Secondly, ocean weather and currents are so unpredictable that even the most experienced deep-sea divers find themselves in dangerous situations. If the weather got bad really quickly a deep-sea diver might find that they are unable to get to safety.
3. Concluding Sentence
The last sentence of your paragraph should bring your idea to a close and might move your idea forward.
Deep-sea diving is a risky activity that people should not be allowed to do unless they have taken a full proper training course.
